Also honored was Gary Rushing, a 1969 Azle High School graduate and one of Wolf’s coaching inspirations. Rushing was a five-sport athlete, competing in football, basketball, baseball, track and golf.
During his senior year, he earned First-Team All-District Defensive Back honors, recording 10 interceptions, including a 100-yard interception return — still a school record. He also booted a 50-yard field goal, another long-standing record.
After high school, Rushing continued his athletic career at Cisco Junior College and Howard Payne University before injuries shifted his path toward coaching. Over his career, he coached at Lake Worth, Azle, Springtown, Azle Christian School and Community Christian School, where he continues to coach today.
