New Azle business owners may soon have to adhere to a new sidewalk ordinance, as evidenced by a recent discussion at the Azle City Council meeting Oct. 21.

With a few new projects coming down the pipeline along state highways, Planning and Development Director David Hawkins announced that city staff is now seeking guidance and direction from council on whether to amend and expand the city’s sidewalk requirements.

These new projects include Highway 199, State Spur 344 (Main Street) and Farm-to-Market Road 730 (Boyd Road) in Azle. Because these new developments and re-developments are taking place along state highways, city staff decided to consult with the Texas Department of Transportation on how to implement sidewalk requirements along its roadways.
