The race isn’t over for State Senate District 9, as Democrat Taylor Rehmet and Republican Leigh Wambsganss head to a runoff following the results of last week’s special election.
Out of 118,809 ballots cast, Rehmet led the race with 56,506 votes (47.56%), followed by Wambsganss with 47,712 (35.95%). Republican John Huffman, a former Southlake mayor, finished with 19,591 (16.49%) votes. Because no candidate secured a majority of at least 50%, Rehmet and Wambsganss are expected to face each other in a runoff to determine who will represent the district.
Rehmet, an Air Force veteran and union officer, has focused his campaign on fully funding public schools, creating affordable housing, protecting veterans and putting workers first. Wambsganss, a conservative activist, has shown her passion for standing up for Texas families, defending constitutional liberties and holding government accountable.
