Legacy Oaks honors local veterans with month-long salute
U.S. Air Force Vietnam War pilot David Smith displays a frame with three medals and his younger self in the same hat he still proudly wears.

Stars, stripes and standout smiles took over Legacy Oaks of Azle Oct. 8, as local veterans turned a flag backdrop into their own honor roll. The senior living community hosted a patriotic photo session where each veteran stepped forward — service caps, medals and memories in hand — for portraits that salute their years in uniform.

The lineup featured plenty of personality and included:

  • Terry Thorp, MSgt USAF
  • Alfred Hulse, 1st Lt. USAF
  • David Smith, USAF Vietnam War pilot
  • Bill Gray, USAF
  • Jimmy Smith, USAF Crew Chief and Aircraft Mechanic
  • Dick Kistler, Navy
  • Ronnie Miller, Army
  • Ms. Mike Reilly, Navy
  • Walter Johnston
  • Tom Strawn
