Three Azle High School seniors are making the grade — and their parents proud — with their recent National Merit recognition.

During the Azle Independent School District board of trustees meeting Nov. 17, Jack Graeber, Emily O’Neill and Annika Birkeland were recognized for becoming commended scholars in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.

According to the National Merit website, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition among high school students for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. United States high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an initial screen of over 1.3 million entrants each year.
