Ash Creek Park has a brand-new environmental makeover, with 11 additional trees now taking root in the park’s soil — but the hands behind the hard work weren’t city crews or seasoned landscapers.

Putting their green thumbs to work, Girl Scout Troop 2745 recently partnered with the city of Azle to plant more trees as part of a community initiative to help retain runoff water in the floodplain and promote environmental stewardship.

Troop leader Rachel Bevan said the Scouts learned how to use post hole diggers and shovels as they created small wells for each tree. Because of this initiative, Bevan said her troop gained valuable hands-on experience in conservation work and learned how tree planting supports floodplain management and improves local ecosystems.
