Azle City Council might soon put the “shade” back in Shady Grove Park, as members are now discussing two different options of shade structures — metal or cloth/fabric covers.
Parks Superintendent Kyle Culwell told council Nov. 18 the fiscal year 2025-26 budget included the cost of installing shade structures over each of the 12 picnic tables in the beach area of the park and over a total of six bleachers in ball fields No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. The budget also includes funds to add three additional concrete pads with picnic tables along the beach area and installing three more shaded structures over those pads as well.
“We did contact some different companies, and we looked at two different designs: the cantilever shade structure, similar to what we have in the playgrounds, and the others are panel, metal roofing,” Culwell said.
