The now vacant property that once housed Kmart and Bealls is on the chopping block for demolition after the Building Board of Appeals voted unanimously Dec. 1, to have the structure torn down.
David Hawkins, director of planning and development for the city of Azle, said the board’s action gives the property owner a total of 60 days from the meeting date — a deadline of Feb. 1, 2026 — to file a demolition permit.
If the owner does not file a demolition permit by the 60-day deadline, Hawkins said city staff will then be authorized to secure the site and proceed with the demolition themselves.
