Azle City Council is “stepping back up to the plate” amid discussions about reevaluating ball field rental fee increases — a decision that was made just three months ago in September.

During a regular meeting Dec. 2, Place 1 council member Derrick Nelson pointed out that Azle’s recent price hikes for private tournaments at the Shady Grove ball field have now made the city’s rates significantly higher than those of neighboring communities.

“The thing that I’m concerned about is that they (residents) will just ask to rent the field, like they’re just a family or something, and then host a tournament to skirt around (those fees),” Nelson said. “I just think that it’s something we definitely need to rethink.”
