An atmosphere of love, gratitude and reverence filled Azleland Memorial Park Saturday, Dec. 13, as community members gathered to honor local fallen heroes during the annual Wreaths Across America ceremony.

Coordinated and led by the Azle Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol, Azleland joined more than 5,600 other locations across the country to commemorate National Wreaths Across America Day. By raising enough funds throughout the year, the squadron was able to sponsor the placement of 550 veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of fallen service members who have been laid to rest.

Col. Steve Priest, squadron commander for Civil Air Patrol, said in thousands of locations just like Azleland, there were millions of Americans who gathered safely as one nation to remember and honor each and every fallen veteran. He estimated there were about 3.1 million wreaths in the U.S. that were being placed on the graves of cherished veterans.
