A classroom teacher, a world traveler, and a garden enthusiast, Marguerite Hudson celebrated her 100th birthday Dec. 13 at Legacy Oaks of Azle.

Born in Ackerman, Mississippi, Marguerite moved to Grenada at the age of 14. She met Kinsey Stewart at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, in December 1943, and they married July 7, 1945. Together, they raised three daughters β€” Kathy, Karen and Maureen β€” living in New Orleans, Malibu, California, and Long Beach, Mississippi.

Marguerite taught kindergarten in New Orleans, first grade in Malibu, and continued for nearly two decades in Long Beach. One of her students was Frank Capra III, grandson of the filmmaker behind the holiday classic β€œIt's a Wonderful Life.”
