For Joni Bettis, education was never simply a career path; it was a calling. Early experiences teaching Vacation Bible School and Sunday school helped shape her desire to work with children, eventually guiding her toward public education. Now, after 30 years in the profession, she is preparing to step away.

Currently the co-principal at Hoover Elementary in Azle after 12 years as its principal, Bettis began her teaching career in Springtown ISD at Lipstreu Elementary, a first- and second-grade campus, before joining Azle ISD at Silver Creek Elementary. Over the years, she taught second grade at Silver Creek Elementary, second and third grade at Cross Timbers Elementary and kindergarten at Eagle Heights Elementary.

Later, Bettis earned her counseling certification and served as school counselor at Liberty Elementary for nine years. That journey ultimately led her to Hoover Elementary, where she served as principal.
