The Azle Lady Hornets used a strong second quarter to secure a confidence-building nondistrict win before opening District 5-5A play last week.

Azle hosted Sanger Tuesday, Dec. 9, using an 18–4 run in the second quarter to pull away en route to a 52–46 victory at the Hornet Gym. The matchup served as a final tuneup following the Lady Hornets’ fourth-place finish at the Haltom Lions Club Tournament and ahead of their district opener.

Freshman Kaylee Robinson led Azle with 20 points, while sophomore guards Angel Sifuentes and Iliana Lopez each added 12 points. Sanger, coached by former Azle boys assistant Derek Hilliard, could not recover from Azle’s second-quarter surge.
