With Texas leading the nation in food insecurity, one nonprofit organization is stepping up to fight hunger — one steer at a time.

The Texas Beef Initiative was first established in 2020 to provide a consistent and reliable source of high-quality ground beef to Texans in need. Through partnerships with community food banks, charitable service organizations, ranchers and farmers, TBI works to improve the health and diet of many food-insecure Texans.

Donna Smith, TBI board member, gave a presentation to the Rotary Club of Azle during its weekly meeting Dec. 18. She explained that while TBI is based in Dripping Springs, it has also expanded to serve the areas of Austin, San Antonio, Bryan/College Station and Dallas/Fort Worth.
