After years of earning all As, the Azle Independent School District recently received a C in the Texas Education Agency’s financial accountability rating — a score that district officials say can be chalked up to a simple budget cycle change.
During the Dec. 15 AISD board of trustees meeting, Chief Financial Officer Summer Mathis presented the results of the district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. Used by the TEA, the FIRST rating system ensures that public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices.
According to Mathis, the district received a 78, or a C rating, which is based on 21 indicators that were measured during fiscal year 2023-24.
