It’s the age-old debate that everyone has very strong opinions on. There’s simply not an in between when talking about whether pineapple belongs on pizza. For this edition of “Double Take,” the pro position of pineapple on pizza will be explained by Jolee Skinner and the con position will be explained by Cynthia Garcia.

Pineapple belongs on pizza because it adds sweetness that perfectly complements the savory flavors of pizza. It adds a contrast without making the pizza feel too heavy. Pineapple actually comes from South America, specifically the region that includes modern-day southern Brazil and Paraguay. The indigenous people in this area domesticated the pineapple thousands of years ago for its sweetness, juiciness and nutritional value. In a way, pineapple brings the nutritional value of pizza in a positive direction.
