The Azle boys wrestling program faced its stiffest test of the season Jan. 2-3 as the Hornets battled elite competition at the Allen Texas Outlaw Tournament.
For the first time this year, senior Chase Yancey and his younger brother Tyler Yancey both suffered losses, each falling to the defending Class 6A state champion in their respective weight classes. Despite the results, Azle head coach Tyler Harrison said the tournament provided valuable experience against top-tier opponents.
“This was a very tough tournament,” Harrison said. “We saw some of the best competition in the state, and that’s exactly what we want this time of year.”
