Azle’s boys and girls basketball teams split a district doubleheader Tuesday, Jan. 6 against Granbury at the Hornet Gym, with the Lady Hornets falling 49-34 before the Hornets secured a 50-44 victory to remain unbeaten in district play.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 17-12 lead after one quarter, knocking down three 3-pointers in a strong opening stretch. Granbury answered in the second quarter, outscoring Azle 19-2 to take control at halftime. From there, the teams played nearly evenly, but the early second-quarter surge proved decisive for the Lady Pirates.

Sophomore guard Angel Sifuentes led Azle with 12 points, while Tatyanna Gibson added 11 and Illiana Lopez finished with five.
