Pelican Bay residents will soon see a change on their utility bills after city council unanimously approved an increase to both water and sewer rates during a regular meeting Jan. 13.

The new rates — which city officials say will officially go into effect Feb. 1 — will include a $3.40 increase to Pelican Bay’s base water rate and a $15 increase to the city’s base sewer rate.

According to Mayor Tamra Olague, the council’s decision to approve this $18.40 increase didn’t come lightly and included months of discussion and deliberation.
