The Lady Hornets powerlifting team continued its strong start to the season, capturing its second straight meet championship Wednesday, Jan. 21 with a first-place finish at the Brewer meet.
The victory comes one week after Azle won its home invitational, giving the Lady Hornets back-to-back team titles.
“We dominated the competition, had several personal records, and exemplified what it means to be a Hornet,” Azle head girls powerlifting coach Logan Scott said.
Azle posted eight first-place finishes at Brewer. Gold medalists included Bella Robles, Paizlee Gray, Mavis Caldenty, Kellar Gunter, Dakota Donaldson, Brooklynn Gibson, Emma Sustala and Emma Booten.
Robles was also named Outstanding Lifter in the lightweight classes, while Sustala earned Outstanding Lifter in the heavyweight classes, highlighting Azle’s strength at both ends of the platform.
The Lady Hornets also earned eight second-place finishes from Zoe Hopton, Finley Hard, Kimber Gray, Addison Van Hooser, Addi Dorris, Kenzie Arrellano, Kayley Brekel and Jessie Johnson.
Rounding out the podium were third-place finishers Everly Arrellano, Jaylin Booker and Liliana Rodriguez.
With depth across multiple weight classes and continued improvement on the platform, Azle remains a strong contender as the powerlifting season moves forward.
