The Azle Lady Hornets wrapped up their nondistrict schedule at home against Decatur, closing the preseason with a hard-fought loss but plenty of confidence heading into district play.
Facing a strong Decatur squad, Azle competed from start to finish, showing resilience and effort until the final whistle. Despite the outcome, head coach Marisa Flowers said the performance reflected the team’s growing toughness and belief.
“We pushed through every play, proving we have the heart to compete with anyone,” Flowers said.
The match marked the final tune-up before district competition begins. Azle will open district play Jan. 27 when the Lady Hornets host Chisholm Trail.
“As we head into district play, we couldn’t be prouder of our progress over the preseason,” Flowers said. “Our nondistrict season was highlighted by a hard-earned championship win at the Brewer Bear Cave Classic. More importantly, we have seen our team grow stronger with every game.”
That growth, Flowers said, has the Lady Hornets focused on a bigger goal as the season moves forward.
“We have an ultimate goal in mind — bring home a district championship title to Azle High School,” she said.
