When news of an impending winter storm began to spread last week, many people began taking precautions in preparation. However, there are hundreds across the county that do not have options during times of need. Luckily, Operation Texas Strong, along with its partners, coordinated to feed and shelter the area's homeless during the worst of the wintry weekend.
Founded in 2021 by Bobby and Peggy Crutsinger, Operation Texas Strong focuses on helping homeless veterans across Texas “get off the streets one RV at a time.” Their mission is to provide a foundation to help them rebuild their lives by having a place to call home. While no RVs were donated during the storm, the need for shelter was imminent, prompting Bobby Crutsinger to jump into action.
“When stuff is like this we need to have a place for people to go when they run out of electricity or their power goes out, or a warming center. But nobody had a warming center in Parker County other than Reno,” he said. “We were scared there would be a lot of people passed away because of the cold because there’s over 100 homeless in the Parker County area that travel through from Fort Worth to Abilene and then we have about 30 to 40 homeless in Weatherford that hang out in Parker County,” Crutsinger said.
