The University Interscholastic League released its biennial reclassification and realignment for the 2026–28 seasons Monday, Feb. 2, bringing the familiar wave of anticipation and adjustment for schools across Texas. The UIL announced new district alignments for football and volleyball, with classifications for other sports to follow.
The realignment, conducted every two years, places schools into districts based on student enrollment figures with the goal of creating competitive balance. Once released, the new alignments immediately trigger scheduling changes as athletic departments begin planning for the next two seasons.
One of the most notable changes impacts Azle High School. For the 2026 football season, the Hornets will no longer share a district with longtime rival Aledo, who moves up to Class 6A for at least the next two years. Granbury, another familiar district opponent, will also move to Class 6A. Brewer High School will change districts as well, joining Fort Worth ISD schools at 5A level.
