After a scoreless battle through regulation, the Azle Lady Hornets broke through in dramatic fashion, defeating Aledo 4-2 in a penalty-kick shootout Tuesday, Feb. 17. The Azle Hornet Lady Soccer team also hosted and honored local military members and first responders before the game.
Defense set the tone all night for Azle, who held the Bearcats off the scoreboard through regulation behind a disciplined back line and a standout performance from goalkeeper Emma Nelson. Nelson delivered two clutch saves in the shootout, swinging momentum firmly in the Lady Hornets’ favor.
Azle converted four penalty kicks to seal the victory, with goals from Savana Swint, Yasmeen Tejada, Nelson and Addison Horner. Nelson’s strike capped a memorable night, as the keeper played a central role on both ends of the shootout.
