Azle Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Parnell awarded the Director’s Award to Michael Wright during the chamber’s annual awards banquet Feb. 19 at Wild Wonder Event Center.

“The Director’s Award is presented each year to an individual who has provided great assistance and encouragement to the chamber and me,” Parnell said.

“Tonight, I recognize someone who has provided so much help behind the scenes. Without him, we would probably be down to five tables for our monthly luncheons, because he always takes time to haul our broken tables home to make repairs after every month,” Parnell added.

It is all thanks to Wright that the chamber can display visual presentations in 4K at the monthly luncheons, Parnell told the audience. He helps prepare for Sting Fling by hanging up banners, being the unofficial fire ant eradicator and measuring wheel delivery — two key components that make Sting Fling a success. He also sets up the racetrack for the Weiner Dog Derby. He is always looking for ways to get involved and help in the community.

“I've grown up here. I spent my whole life in this community, and I love this community, and I just want to do what I can to help,” Wright said.

Wright currently serves as the construction chair for the chamber’s new office building. He is the biggest supporter of this campaign.

“The Azle community is such a special place. We’re all so used to just wanting to take care of each other and help out, therefore that’s why I think our chamber building is such an important project. We’re classy people and it’ll give us a classy place to represent that,” Wright said.

For Wright, the Azle Area Chamber of Commerce is important because it helps the nonprofits grow in the community.

“I've been in business my whole life in this chamber. We have a lot of great nonprofits, and I want to bring more business into our chamber so that we have a bigger base to help out all the nonprofits,” Wright said.
