Azle ISD cancels May election

Azle ISD cancels May election

Azle Independent School District has voted to formally cancel its May trustee election, as both incumbents will be running unopposed.

During the AISD board of trustees meeting Feb. 23, Superintendent Todd Smith announced the board’s incumbents up for re-election — Place 1 trustee Brenda Reed and Place 2 trustee Sarah Bennett — will be the only candidates on the ballot for their respective races.

Since Texas law allows certain political subdivisions below the county level to cancel their elections only if all candidates are running unopposed, the AISD board of trustees unanimously approved the certification of unopposed candidates and ordered the cancellation for the May trustee election. Once the election date has passed, candidates are considered to be “elected” to another term.
