Azle Independent School District is aligning with many other school districts across the state after trustees voted against adopting a separate prayer policy during its Feb. 23 board meeting.
The vote — which passed unanimously — was in accordance with Texas Senate Bill 11, which permits school districts to decide whether they wish to allow a dedicated time for voluntary student and staff prayer as well as Bible readings.
According to Azle ISD’s resolution, the board voted to decline to adopt a separate SB 11 policy at this time, as “current law and district policy sufficiently provide the required opportunities for religious expression.”
