SOCCER

The Lady Hornet varsity soccer team secured a play-off spot Tuesday, March 3 by defeating Granbury in penalty kicks. Yasmeen Tejeda, Katie Trammell, Emma Nelson and Addison Horner all scored on penalty kicks and the Lady Hornets won 4-2. The Lady Hornets were open Friday, March 6.

The Lady Hornet JV soccer team also played Granbury and had to settle for a 0-0 tie. JV games do not go to penalty kicks.

The Azle Boys varsity soccer team hosted Granbury Tuesday, March 3 and welcomed the Azle Soccer Association to Youth Night. The district game with Granbury saw the Pirates escape with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Scoring for the Hornets was Rendon Stephens with the assist by Diego Lira. The Hornets were open Friday, March 6.

The Hornet JV soccer team was locked in a tough district battle with Granbury but fell 3-2 to the Pirates. Julian Herrera and JJ Jinks scored and were assisted by Bodhi Allen.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Hornet varsity softball team blitzed Chisholm Trail Tuesday, March 3 at Jim Bob Nation’s Field of Dreams with a score of 11-1. Adlyn Kripner got four hits in four at bats with two runs batted in. Fallon Inglet got the win in the circle striking out five Lady Rangers.

The Lady Hornet JV squad blasted Chisholm Trail 12-2 Tuesday night, March 3, at Jim Bob Nation’s Field of Dreams.

The Lady Hornet varsity picked up some key wins in the Aubrey tournament. First up was Denton Ryan and the Lady Hornets took them down 4-2. Lillianna Johnson led the way with three runs batted in. Paradise was up next and handed the Lady Hornets a 6-2 loss. Paschal followed and the Lady Hornets rebounded with a 9-4 win.

BASEBALL

The Hornet varsity baseball team took part in the Arlington Heights baseball tournament starting Thursday, March 5. The Hornets defeated Arlington Heights 5-3. Martin Balderas got the win going six and two-third innings and giving up one earned run. Nolan Meitz picked up the save. Tyler Hicks, Henry Rosales, Mason Holleman and Kaden Hass each had one hit for the Hornets. The Hornets downed Keller Central 7-2 with Aden Lacker picking up the complete game win. Lacker allowed four hits, three walks and one earned run. The Hornets then faced a tough Boswell team and took a 10-4 loss to the Pioneers. Henry Rosales had a homerun and two runs batted in for the Hornets. The Hornets rebounded nicely in the last game against Mansfield Legacy, downing Legacy 9-7 with Jackson Hefley picking up the win.

The Hornet JV Green team won the Weatherford Tournament going 4-0 on the weekend. Creek Vines, Brody Reaves and Jacob Zaiger all pitched well. Zaiger, Aiden Parong and Corbin Myers all were great at the plate, as well.

Azle Hornet JV White team went 3-1 in its tournament. Eli Meitz and Mason Norwood pitched well for the JV White Hornets.

TRACK AND FIELD

The Lady Hornet track and field team placed first at the Boswell Pioneer Relays Thursday, March 5. The Lady Hornets had several outstanding performances. Freshman sensation Jazmin Neri collected double gold in the 3200-meter and 1600-meter runs. Nicole Johnson won the 100-meter dash, while Tatem Bozeman placed first in the 300-meter hurdles. The Lady Hornet 4x400-meter relay team finished first as well. Senior Yazmeen Tejeda finished second in the 800-meter run and Eliana Hofer placed second in the 100-meter hurdles. Addison Horner placed third in the 400-meter dash. State champion wrestler Elizabeth Yelle placed third in the discus and Tatyanna Gibson placed third in the shot put. 

The Hornet varsity boys track and field team traveled across the lake to take part in the Boswell Pioneer Relays Thursday, March 5. Emery Trammell started things off winning the 800-meter run. In the sprints, Adean Garvin was second in the 100-meter dash, while Jakob Montelongo placed fourth in the 200-meter dash. Paul Robinson placed fourth in the 1600-meter run. The Hornet 4x100-meter relay team raced to a fourth-place finish with a 43.32 time. The Hornet 4x200 meter relay team took third place. Tristan Uecker placed second in the long jump.
