The AHS chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America competed at the Texas FCCLA Region II Leadership Conference in Waco March 6-8. Several teams of students placed in the top five of their events and will advance to state competition April 9-10 including two Parliamentary Procedure level three teams, one Parliamentary Procedure level two team and one level two Texas Toy Design team. The FCCLA Culinary chapter also has several students advancing to state including a student in Baking and Pastry, a student in Cupcake Battle, a student in Knife Skills and two students in Food Innovations.

“As our chapter, we have five of our FCCLA culinary kids who are advancing. Now they didn't compete in like the culinary art one, but they competed in (the general FCCLA events), which was the Baking and Pastry, Knife Skills, Food Innovations, and then the Cupcakes (Battle). In the culinary arts, we have to make sure people understand that in culinary arts one is where they have a preset menu, and they have to make that menu in a certain amount of time. When we say we're the culinary arts chapter, it's still all the same FCCLA competitions that are offered to any FCCLA student, whether you're in a culinary chapter or the regular. We just specialize in taking our kids to more culinary event ones,” FCCLA culinary advisor Samantha Baker said.

The Parliamentary Procedure level three teams placed third and fourth, and the Parliamentary Procedure level two team placed third. The parliamentary teams have up to eight members and consist of chair, a secretary, treasurer, and a person who reads the special committee report while the rest are members. At FCCLA competitions level two teams are made up of freshman and sophomores while level three teams are made up of juniors and seniors.
