After first broaching the idea back in January, members of the Azle City Council have officially adopted an ordinance that will restrict registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of where children normally gather.
WHAT DOES THE ORDINANCE DO?
Azle Police Chief Ben Hall — who first brought up the ordinance idea to council Jan. 11 — said registered sex offenders can be restricted by a city ordinance from living near what’s called child safety zones. These are generally defined as places where children congregate, such as schools, licensed daycare facilities, youth centers, parks, public or semi-public pools and playgrounds. Churches with playgrounds or youth programs may also be included as a child safety zone.
