Springtown man arrested for meth, gun

A routine traffic stop in Azle quickly turned into something much more serious Thursday morning, March 26.

Azle officers initiated a traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration. The driver, James Covey, was subsequently arrested for Driving While License Invalid. At the time of his arrest, Covey was found to be in possession of 45 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Additionally, officers located a small weight scale, various drug paraphernalia, and a firearm with an altered serial number in his vehicle.

Covey, who lists a Springtown address, was charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1, 4-200 grams; unlawful possession of firearm by a felon; and tampering with identification numbers. This is an ongoing investigation.
