Hornet Relays honor longtime coach Donnie Ostermann
Long time track coach Donnie Ostermann stays active as a starter for local high school track meets.

Azle High School hosted the Donnie Ostermann Hornet Relays Thursday, April 2, at Hornet Stadium, continuing a long-standing tradition while honoring one of the program’s most influential figures.

Ostermann, affectionately known as “Donnie O,” served as Azle’s head boys cross country and track and field coach from 1980 to 2013. He also coached girls cross country from 1980 to 1998 and contributed as a football coach from 1980 to 1992. In total, Ostermann spent 33 years at Azle and 39 years in education.

In recognition of his impact, Ostermann was inducted into the Azle ISD Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023. The Hornet Relays were renamed in his honor beginning in 2017.
