No one was injured Wednesday night, April 1, when one home in the Azlewood neighborhood sustained major damage and a neighboring home was moderately damaged after flames engulfed them both. The area received almost an inch of rain in the overnight hours that followed, but it came too late to provide help in putting out the fire.

A first alarm assignment was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Inwood Road at 8:57 p.m. and firefighters arrived on scene at 9:02 p.m. While they were en route, fire personnel reported they could see a large column of smoke from Boyd Road and declared a working fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the primary structure heavily involved with fire and the secondary structure had fire showing from its eaves.

Azle Fire Department’s Engine 52 assumed command of the scene, confirmed all occupants were out of both structures and requested a second alarm. When Fire Chief Will Scott arrived, he took over command and assigned the E-52 officer to operations.

The American Red Cross was requested and arrived at the scene shortly after 11 p.m. The incident commander declared the fire was out at 11:32 p.m.; however, firefighters remained on scene to mop up and cleared the scene at 12:31 a.m. Thursday.

The Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze.

In addition to the Azle Fire Department, firefighters from Lake Worth Fire Department, Parker County Emergency Services District No. 1, Saginaw Fire Department and White Settlement Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the fire.

Morning light revealed the extent of the damage to a home on Inwood Road after a late-night blaze caused major damage and also damaged the home next door.
