Shady Grove Park is now living up to its name with the recent installation of metal shade structures over the area’s picnic tables — a change that was made just in time for the Texas summer heat.

Construction of the green shade structures over 12 of the picnic tables in the beach area of the park — along with three additional concrete pads and shade structures — was completed in March, following guidance from Azle City Council back in November 2025.

“We have been investing in (Azle) Central Park, where we’ve put a lot of investment and improvements in the infrastructure and the facilities with a concrete walking path and adding the lights along the walking path,” Parks Superintendent Kyle Culwell told The Azle News. “They (city council) felt they wanted to see us do some improvements at Shady Grove Park this year, so that was the catalyst to get that started and put that in the budget.”
