Early voting begins April 20 for the May 2 general election. Residents of Reno will cast their vote in the race for the City Council Place 5 seat, which is the only contested race on the ballot.

Incumbent Edward Payne is seeking reelection against Darrin Talley. Payne, a Reno resident, works as a site supervisor for a medical research company. Talley is a retired 30-year-old veteran of the Grand Prairie Fire Department and has lived in Reno for two years.

While three council seats were up for election this year, Place 5 is the only race with opposition. Kevin Vandenberg, the incumbent in Place 1, and Ryan Mott, who is running unopposed for Place 3, are each unopposed and will be deemed duly elected. Council member Jennifer Vogle and Mayor Hector Bas will continue to serve their current terms until 2027.

Early voting will run through April 28 at locations across Parker County. Polls will generally be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 27. Polls will be closed April 21 for a state holiday.
