SOFTBALL

The Lady Hornet varsity entered the week having already clinched a play-off spot. On Tuesday, April 14 Brewer visited Jim Bob Nation’s Field of Dreams and walked away with a 10-3 victory. Madison Holleman led the Lady Hornets at the plate going 3-for-3. Holleman doubled in the second inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fourth inning. The Ladies traveled to Aledo Friday, April 17 to conclude the regular season, falling to district champion Aledo 12-1. Brianna Zalesky led the Lady Hornets with one run batted in and Madison Holleman went 1-for-2 at the plate.

BASEBALL

The Hornet varsity headed to Brewer Tuesday, April 14 and the Bears took the district win 3-2. Martin Balderas threw a complete game going six innings, allowing five hits and striking out 11. Nolan Meitz and Wyatt Hicks had two hits each; Kaden Haas, Garin Bissonnette, Mason Holleman and Tyler Couch each had one hit. The Hornet varsity returned to Jim Bob Nation’s Field of Dreams Friday, April 17 and beat the Bears 8-5. Nolan Meitz pitched five strong innings, striking out five Bears. Seth Webb pitched in relief and Jackson Helley picked up the save. Bissonnette hit a home run, while Hicks had two hits and three RBIs. Colten Fox had two hits; Haas, Meitz and Balderas each had one hit. Azle improved to 17-11 and is still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

JV Green will take its 21-4 record into the home series with Aledo. The first game of the District Championship is at 4:30 p.m. and the second game is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday April 22. 

JV White will travel to Aledo and has a chance at a district championship Wednesday, April 22.

TRACK AND FIELD

Azle Varsity girls ran at the Area Track meet in Denton Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Freshman Tatum Bozeman qualified for the regional meet in the 300-meter hurdles. The Lady Hornet mile relay ran a season best and qualified for the regional meet. The relay team is made up of Noah Kovach, Addi Horner, Lydia Leonard and Yasmeen Tejeda. Freshman Jazmeen Neri placed fourth in the 1600-meter run qualifying her for the regional meet. Azle Varsity boys sprint relay set a new school record at the area meet. The team is made up of Wyatt Jackson, Braden Combs, AJ Garvin and Jacob Montelongo.

TENNIS

The Azle High School tennis mixed doubles team of Christian Tomlinson and Story Hilliard participated in the Region 1 Tennis tournament in Lubbock Friday, April 17 and Saturday April 18.
