Landers’ legacy drives Azle golf forward

Annual fundraiser reflects support from local golf icon
Landers’ legacy drives Azle golf forward
1968 Azle High School graduate Robert Landers accepts his induction plaque into the Azle ISD Hall of Fame Oct. 12, 2021.

For decades, Robert Landers has been far more than just the namesake behind one of Azle’s most important athletic fundraisers.

He has been a mentor, supporter and lasting symbol of what dedication to local athletics can look like.

The 12th annual Robert Landers Golf Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Cross Timbers Golf Course. The annual four-man scramble benefits the Azle High School golf program, continuing a tradition Landers and his granddaughter, Mary Shaw, have organized together each spring.
