The Silver Creek Heritage Society hosted its annual come-and-go spring gathering April 19 from 1-4 p.m. at the historic Tucker House.
The community tradition began in 1999 when Ann Tucker Moody donated her family’s 1889 farmhouse, the Tucker House, as a meeting place. Since then, the society has met twice a year to celebrate local history, preserve the area’s heritage, and strengthen community ties as northeastern Parker County continues to grow.
“We all knew where each (other) lived, but we did not necessarily know our neighbors until we had the Tucker House. It has been a great community meeting place. We also feel that connection in knowing who one another is, to keep in touch in the community, for things that concern the community. It's for the families who have the connections here since the 1850s along with the newcomers who have enjoyed the community and learning about its history,” Norlene Wright Carter, president of the society, said.
