Debra Moore grew up in Perrin and spent some time in Lubbock, Mineral Wells and Fort Worth before moving to Azle in 1988. After moving to Azle, she quickly found a church — Azle Church of Christ — to call home, which allowed her to connect with people in the community in a babysitting co-op group. In the group, the mothers would take the children to the library. After realizing the library needed financial support, the group along with other people formed Friends of the Library club.
In 1993 Moore started working at the old Azle Elementary campus, called the Rock School locally, as an aide where she worked under the direction of former principal Chelsa Holder. As an aide, she worked with children who were behind academically in school. At first, she worked with a teacher and would work with students one-on-one. Then she was moved to the learning lab where she worked with a class full of students. She worked as an aide for seven years until 2000.
Then she became a single mother and had to make the difficult decision to move back to Fort Worth for a higher paying salary. She worked as a secretary for the Education Service Center for a few years. She got burned out and decided it was time to look for another secretary position. She saw that Azle ISD had a secretary position in the administration building as the curriculum coordinator’s secretary, applied and didn’t get the job. However, a year later that same position opened again; she applied and got the job. She served as the curriculum coordinator secretary from 2004 until her retirement in 2018.
