APD reopens Azle Citizens Police Academy

AZLE — The Azle Citizens Police Academy is a weekly evening class that spans several months and teaches attendees about the different parts of the police department — from evidence and handling equipment to dispatch and patrol operations.

It’s a “30,000-foot view” where participants will be exposed to all the systems the APD uses and the challenges officers face. It lets attendees meet officers and lets officers interact on a personal level to build relationships and mutual understanding with the community.

“It is a pretty cool way for us to meet our citizens, and for them to know our team,” APD Chief Ben Hall said in an email to the Tri-County Reporter. “Having citizens learn what’s in our hearts and get to know us as people rather than just those people in blue making traffic stops!”

Classes start March 4 and end May 6 and will be held each Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Applications are now being accepted. Interested residents can contact Sgt. Bovea at [email protected] or 817-270-1822.
