After years of fundraising and renovations, the Community Caring Center will celebrate with a ribbon cutting and open house beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27. The event will be at the center located at 317 Commerce St., beginning with the ribbon cutting followed by opportunities for the public to tour the new facility, meet the team, and learn about how the nonprofit is working to serve those in need.
The CCC was established in 1990 and is a faith-based nonprofit organization united to serve and support those in need in the Azle area. It originated in 1982 as a small food pantry in a family garage in Briar. In 1990, it had a grand opening and operated from an old lumber yard on Farm-to-Market Road 730 North and was heavily supported by the Azle Area Ministerial Alliance.
“It was just a realization that all these churches had their own version of a food pantry, and they could do and serve a lot more if they pooled all their resources. Without that initial group of churches saying, ‘Hey, we want to do this, and we want to make this happen,’ this building today wouldn't exist,” Executive Director Kristie Cooper told The Azle News.
