Suzanne Murr grew up in Holliday — a small town near Wichita Falls — and moved with her family to Azle in 1960 at the age of 10. She attended Azle High School, where she was named Miss AHS her senior year, and graduated in 1967. While she was in high school, her mother Dorothy — known as “D.Dot” — bought Azle Flower Shop, which she owned and operated for 58 years. Murr helped her mother with her book work while she was in high school.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Texas Christian University in 1971, she returned to Holliday, and she began her teaching career in home economics.
After a year, she decided to move back to Azle in hopes of teaching with her high school mentor — her home economics teacher. However, there wasn’t an opening at the high school, so she taught home economics and earth science for one year at Azle Junior High, which at the time served as an eighth- and ninth-grade campus.
