Sixteen seniors at Azle High School graduated with the class of 2026 in spite of living in unstable housing situations. Some stayed with friends or extended family. Some slept in cars. But they found a way to complete their educations. One of those students bravely spoke with The Azle News in the hope that sharing his story might bring awareness to the community about students like himself and others.
ZANE’S STORY
Zane Silver and his mother had just been forced out of their motel in Las Vegas. They spent the entire day walking in extreme heat, carrying their belongings in two small carts and moving from place to place with no clear destination. At one point during the day, Silver was extremely dehydrated and had to go to the hospital. The day finally come to an end for them around 9 or 10 p.m. when they reached an emergency shelter, where they could finally rest and sleep. By that point, Silver wasn’t only extremely dehydrated, he was also sunburned and had blisters on his feet.
