Members of the Rotary Club of Azle got a peek into a Career and Technical Education program at Azle High School that helps students interested in careers in law, criminal investigation or law enforcement begin their studies early and graduate with certain certifications that enable them to work in associated fields right away.

AHS CTE forensics teacher Katherine Cruz, who also sponsors and trains the school’s Criminal Justice Club, and 2026 AHS graduate Ashlynn Royal were at the Rotary meeting Thursday, May 28, to talk about the program.

Cruz told those in attendance she worked in the corrections field for 20 years in the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, where she began working as a deputy in the jails and promoted through the ranks the position of lieutenant.
