Following an executive session during its May 19 meeting, the Azle City Council reconvened into open session and voted unanimously to name former assistant city manager, and more recently, Interim City Manager Amber Beard as the municipality’s City Manager.

Beard was tapped for the position April 27 — before former City Manager Tom Muir’s retirement May 1 — when the council named her interim city manager and authorized itself to negotiate an employment contract for her to become city manager. The council selected Beard as the only finalist after it conducted a nationwide search for candidates for the position.

Beard replaced longtime Assistant City Manager Lawrence Bryant, who left Azle for a similar position with the city of Hurst in February 2025. In that role, she oversaw the golf course and a variety of other public services.
