The Azle Memorial Library began its annual summer reading program May 29, continuing a tradition that has lasted more than 35 years.

The goal of the summer reading program is to encourage everyone in the community to read over the summer, especially children and teens to help them stay prepared for when school starts back up in the fall.

“If they don't read, they may lose reading skills during the time they're not reading. The summer reading program definitely helps with that. That's the main goal of it for kids and building vocabulary,” Children’s Services Librarian Ava Bryant told The Azle News.
