New defensive coordinator brings physical mindset to Hornet football
New defensive coordinator Drew Cunningham is ready to run the Hornet defense.

New Azle High School defensive coordinator Drew Cunningham is already making his presence felt as the Hornets prepare for the 2026 football season.

Cunningham arrives in Azle after spending last season at Lovejoy High School, where he served as an assistant linebacker coach. He brings more than a decade of coaching experience, having been on the sidelines since 2013. In addition to coordinating the defense, Cunningham will teach physical education at Azle High School.

As he begins implementing his system, Cunningham said his defensive philosophy starts with one simple objective.
