The Tri-County Amateur Radio Club will welcome the public to its annual amateur radio Field Day June 27-28 at the Azle Fire Station, offering residents an opportunity to learn how amateur radio operators support emergency communications and severe weather reporting across Parker County and neighboring communities.
Club President Chris Fuselier said amateur radio remains a valuable communications tool, particularly when modern communications systems fail during disasters.
“For example, when (Hurricane) Katrina hit New Orleans, all communications were down,” Fuselier said. “Cell phones were down, internet was down, everything was down. But ham radio still had the ability (to communicate) because in situations like that we use backup power. Whether it’s batteries or generators, we can still run our equipment,” he said.
