Akers chases baseball dream in Alaska
Azle High School graduate Tyler Akers was an All-Conference Special Teams player for East Central University.

Former Azle High School standout Tyler Akers is spending his summer more than 3,500 miles from home, sharpening his baseball skills in one of the nation's premier collegiate summer leagues while preparing for another football season at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.

Akers, a 2023 AHS graduate, is a rare two-sport college athlete, competing in both baseball and football. He has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining and said he hopes his summer in the Alaska Baseball League will help him continue developing as a baseball player while staying ready for football.

Akers plays center field and bats leadoff for the Mat-Su Miners of Palmer, Alaska, the defending Alaska Baseball League champions.
