After a 30-minute discussion and an executive session July 21, members of the Azle City Council declined to make any changes to its fire sprinkler ordinance — despite a resident’s request to do so.
During the public comments portion of the July 7 council meeting, resident Andy Rector asked members to consider amending the Azle Fire Code, which requires buildings 6,000 square feet or larger to have a fire suppression system installed — and that includes single-family residences.
“The house we are building would be required to include a fire suppression system in it, and I’m asking that the single-family residences be excluded from that provision across the board,” Rector told council members. “I’m not looking for any exceptions for just my particular situation. I don’t think it makes sense to require fire suppression systems in any houses.”
